Indonesia Open to be tourism window of nation: officials

The Indonesia Open golf tournament will be tourism window of the nation as it will be covered by several big media, officials said here on Monday. Sudrajat, secretary general of the Indonesian Golf Association, told a press conference that the tournament will be one of the biggest attraction to foreign tourists. "The Indonesia Open will be tourism window of the nation. With total prize of 1 million U.S. dollars, no other sport could compete with it. And, I have spoke to Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo that the Indonesia Open will be an annual event, at least as long as he is the governor," said Sudrajat. Vice Jakarta Governor Sukesti Martono said that such tournament will bring positive image for Jakarta as a cozy place for tourism destination. "We want to realize cozy Jakarta and to make it happen we have to build positive image. That could be done by presenting a world class golf tournament that will be attended by world class golfers," he said. An official of Jakarta's Tourism Department said that as the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta needs to build its positive image continuously. "As the result, we see an increasing trend of foreign tourist arrival. In 2010, we saw a 30.7 percent of foreign tourist arrival increase compared to the previous year," he said. In January to March 2011, he said, Jakarta saw a 7.9 percent foreign tourists arrival compared to the same period last year.
