Taman Sari or Tamansari as a tourist attraction located in the
village park, district of Kraton, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Not too
difficult to go into taman sari, because only about 2 km south of
Yogyakarta palace.
Taman Sari designed by European-style architecture (portuguese). Construction adorned with Javanese Symbolize ornaments, and was built in the Sultan Hamengku Buwono I period in the end of XVII Century. Gateway to the park complex called Kenari Gateway in the eastern. But really this gate is the rear gate. The front gate on the west side has been damaged and turned into a township resident. Complex of taman sari was a water castle inside the fort and dedicated to the sultan and his family as a place of recreation, resting and relatives as well as a place of defense. It can be seen from some of the heritage buildings are still intact such as an artificial lake, swimming baths with room a place to change clothes, the room where the dancing, kitchen, and underground tunnels connecting the supposedly trustworthy Tamansari and Mount Merapi.
The Tamansari complex consist of: This artificial island is a high building used as resting room and reconnoitering place. This will be the only building surfaced when the canals opened and the water over flew this area. From the higher place it like lotus floating in the middle of big pool. Sumur Gemuling is building constructed in circle such a well (Javanese: sumur) where some rooms formerly used as praying room. The tunnels in this area were underground passageways to the Sultan palace. The legend says about secret tunnel connecting to the south sea (Indian Ocean) where Nyai Roro Kidul or the Queen of the South has her palace. The supernatural Queen becomes the wife of Yogyakarta Sultan for many generations. This secret tunnels is gateway to the world where the Sultan meeting is supernatural wife. However the building also functioned as a hiding place for the royal family against the enemy attack. You can meet many locals selling souvenirs, art shop or a gallery which can be found in almost every aisle of the tamansari. In essence the park area is also famous for batik, so we can visit here to witness the process of making batik. Taman Sari is an interesting place to visit. |
